LeBron James shares update after son Bronny James, 18, suffers cardiac arrest

LeBron James shared an update and thanked fans for the well-wishes after his son, Bronny, suffered cardiac arrest during basketball practice Monday at the University of Southern California.

The 18-year-old lost consciousness during the morning workout and was transported “Code 3, lights and sirens” to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he spent less than 24 hours in the ICU before being transferred to a lower level of care.

Thursday morning James broke his silence with an update on his son.

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great,” he wrote.

“We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us! #JamesGang”

At this time it’s unclear what the road to recovery will look like for the incoming freshman.

But experts have speculated Bronny’s prognosis is good since he was able to leave the ICU rather quick.

“The longer someone is down from cardiac arrest, the more potential damage to their heart tissue, to their brain tissue, to their body,” Dr. Jonathan Drezner, a cardiologist at the University of Washington Medical Center told CNN. “A quick stay in the ICU and then a transfer to a lower level of care in a short period of time suggests that there was very little damage and is definitely a good sign.”
