Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée has broken her silence with three heartbreaking words after his death
The entertainment world is sadly mourning the tragic loss of Matthew Perry, who passed away over the weekend.
The 54-year-old actor was renowned for his role as Chandler Bing in the hit US sitcom Friends, which aired for a decade from 1994 to 2004.
Perry also starred in a number of projects outside of Friends, including 17 Again, Fools Rush In, and Serving Sara.
Matthew Perry’s death
As previously reported, Perry was discovered lifeless in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles residence, with apparent drowning cited as the cause of death. While investigations into his passing continue, no drugs were discovered at the scene, and no foul play is suspected.
Sources have revealed that Perry returned home in the early hours after an extended pickleball session, where he assigned an errand to his assistant. However, when the assistant returned a couple of hours later, they found the actor unresponsive and promptly dialed 911.
Law enforcement has described the incident as a drowning, yet there have also been rumors of a cardiac arrest. In the years leading up to his passing, Perry had candidly discussed his battles with addiction and substance abuse. He was honest about his decision to embrace sobriety, which he says was driven by a profound fear of a dying.
Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée pays tribute
Over the years, Perry was in several high-profile relationships, including dating Julia Roberts and Lizzy Caplan, known from the hit 2004 movie Mean Girls.
“Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me,” Perry wrote in his memoir. “I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me — why would she not? I was not enough; I could never be enough; I was broken, bent, unlovable.”
“So instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts,” he continued. “She might have considered herself slumming it with a TV guy, and TV guy was now breaking up with her. I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face.”
He and literary manager Molly Hurwitz got engaged in 2020; however, only a year later, the couple announced they had split. Now, she’s come forward and reacted to news of his sudden passing.
She wrote a lengthy statement that was obtained by TMZ. It read: “He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And, he really was very talented.” Hurwitz continued to say that the pair would watch Friends together, and that he would proudly point out certain impressive scenes he did.
“But, I obviously knew that man in a very different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship,” she continued.
“Matty, I feel relief that you are at peace.”
Her words were heartfelt and tragic, and go to show that while Matthew Perry may have had a complicated past, he will always be remembered as a good person.
