Celine Dion has made the huge decision to move back to her native Canada as she battles the incurable stiff-person syndrome.

The legendary singer’s health has been the subject of much speculation over the past year or so, with Dion canceling tour dates and retreating away from the limelight.

Last December, Dion announced that she had been diagnosed with a “one in a million” neurological disorder, forcing her to take a break from performing and cancel all shows in her world tour.

That neurological disorder turned out to be stiff-person syndrome, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord and can cause painful spasms and limit mobility.

In May of this year, it was confirmed that Celine was canceling her entire world tour in a bid to focus on her own health. The singer wrote on Twitter:

”I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again… and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything until I’m really ready to be back on stage… I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”

Dion has kept a low profile since that announcement, but her sister Claudette has provided updates on her condition, expressing optimism.

“I am confident that life will give her back what she gave because she is an extremely intelligent woman, so very generous and talented and in love with life as well,” Claudette said to the Le Journal de Montreal.

“Rather than crying over her fate, I try to send her positive vibes in the hope that one day she will go back on stage.”

Even so, fresh reports suggest that the 55-year-old’s condition is worsening, with certain close friends even fearing that she might never take the stage again.

Having decided to move back to Canada to be among friends and family, Dion has is said to have sold her $30 million mansion in Las Vegas to private equity investor Chuck Esserman.

A friend of the singer’s told Radar Online: “Celine has 11 brothers and sisters living in Canada.

“It’s an amazing, loving support system for her during a time of personal crisis,” they added. “Her disease is incurable, and as hard as she’s worked at it with doctors and therapists, she simply isn’t getting better.”

The source claimed that Dion had planned to complete a world tour before returning to Vegas for another residency.

“Celine had been so excited to go on a big world tour this year and the next, and then settle in for another Las Vegas residency,” they said. “But more and more, it’s doubtful she’ll ever perform on stage again.”

The insider continued: “Given that reality, she’d rather be back home in Quebec, wrapped in the love of her family.”

No matter what she chooses to do, I wish Celine Dion all the very best moving forward. Such an inspiring woman and a truly talented entertainer.
