These Washboard Cookies are simple, buttery, and feature a unique texture, thanks to their signature washboard pattern. They’re a perfect treat for those moments when you want something easy and comforting, with a touch of nostalgia.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Use a fork to gently press down on each dough ball, creating the distinctive washboard pattern.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges turn a light golden brown.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

These cookies are the perfect balance of sweetness and texture, offering a simple yet satisfying treat.
