Cops forced to scan intestines for evidence after man allegedly swallows $769,000 diamond earrings in jewelry heist
Authorities investigating a high-profile jewelry theft recently made an unexpected discovery following the arrest of a suspect linked to the case.
Law enforcement officials detained Jaythan Lawrence Gilder, 32, in connection with an alleged theft involving luxury jewelry valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. Investigators believe the suspect attempted to impersonate a representative of an NBA player to gain access to high-end merchandise at a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando.
According to police reports, Gilder allegedly seized valuable items and attempted to flee the store. Security footage reportedly captured the moment he forced his way out, taking with him diamond earrings valued at approximately $769,500. This included a pair of 4.86-carat diamond earrings worth $160,000 and another pair of 8.19-carat earrings valued at $609,500. Additionally, authorities state he is accused of stealing a ring worth $587,000, which has since been recovered.

During the attempted escape, a store employee sustained injuries while trying to prevent the theft, according to law enforcement.
Gilder was later apprehended when his vehicle was stopped on Interstate 10 in Washington County. Officers arrested him on charges including resisting arrest and in connection with 48 outstanding warrants from Colorado. Authorities suspect he was traveling toward Texas at the time of his arrest.
However, what unfolded next added an unexpected twist to the case. Investigators initially struggled to locate all of the allegedly stolen jewelry. Subsequent medical examinations, including an X-ray taken at the detention facility, reportedly revealed foreign objects inside Gilder’s digestive system. Law enforcement officials suspect these items to be the missing Tiffany & Co. earrings, with an estimated value of nearly $800,000.

According to the arrest report, authorities are awaiting the natural recovery of the jewelry for confirmation. While in custody, Gilder allegedly questioned whether he would face additional charges for the items found in his system. Reports indicate he later commented that he should have disposed of the jewelry in another manner.
Gilder is currently facing charges of first-degree grand theft and robbery with a mask. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to recover all missing items and gather further evidence in the case.
