Donald Trump’s official inauguration photo has been released and people have concerns
With just days to go until Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, January 20, 2025, the official inauguration photos of Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance have been released. The images, captured by chief photographer Daniel Torok, have been widely shared on social media, sparking significant debate among the public.
Mixed Reactions to Trump’s Official Portrait
Supporters of Trump, who will become the first person convicted of a felony to assume the presidency, praised the 78-year-old for looking “presidential” in the photo. However, others were quick to criticize the portrait, drawing comparisons to his infamous mug shot from August 2023.
The mug shot was taken after Trump surrendered to the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, following his indictment on racketeering charges by a grand jury. Many social media users pointed out eerie similarities between the two images, with some even questioning whether the official portrait had been edited using artificial intelligence (AI).
“Why does Trump’s face look like a horror movie poster?” one user asked, while another remarked, “What is wrong with his eyes? They’re two different sizes!” A third person wondered aloud, “Is this the mug shot again?”
Criticism wasn’t limited to the mug-shot comparison, with comments ranging from “Trump looks constipated” to “Why does he always look so angry?” Others noted that the photograph gave off an unsettling vibe, with one user joking, “This picture literally scared me; it looks like AI.”

Inauguration Entertainment Lineup
Meanwhile, the inauguration ceremony has revealed its entertainment lineup, which will include performances by Carrie Underwood and the Village People. The iconic disco group, known for hits like Y.M.C.A., Macho Man, and In the Navy, will perform at at least one event attended by President-elect Trump.
Victor Willis, the only remaining original member of the Village People, announced the news via Facebook on January 13. “We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President-Elect Trump’s campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President-Elect Trump,” Willis wrote.

Addressing Backlash from Fans
Following the announcement, the Village People faced backlash from some fans disappointed by their decision to perform at Trump’s inauguration. In response, Willis shared a statement emphasizing the importance of music in bridging political divides.
“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear; however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” Willis stated. He added that their song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem meant to unite people, especially after a contentious and divided election season.
“After a tumultuous campaign where our preferred candidate lost, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music,” Willis said, referring to Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
The statement concluded: “This is why the Village People will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.”
Looking Ahead
As Trump and Vance prepare to officially assume office, the debate surrounding the inauguration photos and the entertainment lineup reflects the lingering political and cultural tensions in the country. Whether through music, official portraits, or presidential policy, the inauguration will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Trump’s presidency.
