Emma Stone ‘would like’ to be called by her real name

Stage names are common in the entertainment industry. What’s uncommon is someone dropping the name and asking others to refer to them by their legal name.

But that’s Emma Stone for you!

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the two-time Oscar winner revealed she prefers to go by her given name, Emily.

Her legal name is Emily, but when earning her SAG card she had to use Emma as there was already an actress named “Emily Stone” in the union.

She told the publication “a couple of years ago” she “freaked out” because she could no longer take being referred to as Emma – most everyone she knows calls her Emily.

“For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.’”

Ironically, Stone recalled a time when she was in second grade when she requested that her teacher call her Emma because at the time her favorite Spice Girl was Baby Spice aka Emma Bunton.

“Growing up, I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice and guess what? Now I am,” she told Jimmy Fallon in November 2018.

But now, the 35-year-old would like it if people, even fans would call her by her given name, Emily.

“That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily.”
