King Charles admits he’s been reduced to tears after hearing response to cancer diagnosis

King Charles has admitted to being reduced to tears by the messages of support after his cancer diagnosis earlier this month.
Buckingham Palace stunned royal fans the world over when they announced that the monarch had cancer, with doctors having reportedly found the illness after performing a procedure on the King for an enlarged prostate.
It was announced that Charles would be taking a step back from royal engagements as he undergoes treatment, though what type of cancer he is facing – as well as what stage it is at – has not become public knowledge.
Last week we reported on how Charles was traveling back and forth between London and the royal estate of Sandringham. The former is where the King is receiving treatment; the latter reportedly where he prefers to rest and recuperate.
Hello! now say that Charles returned to London again this week to carry out his first in-person engagements since his diagnosis. The 75-year-old was at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Wednesday, February 21) to hold an in-person Privy Council before attending his weekly meeting with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

As per reports, the pair have conducted their past two meetings (which have occurred in the fortnight following Charles’ diagnosis) over the telephone.
However, the plan has always been that the weekly meetings – a long held tradition between British monarchs and their prime ministers – would resume in-person on February 21.
After the meeting earlier this week, Buckingham Palace released a video of the interactions between Charles and Rishi Sunak, during which Charles admitted to having been moved by the public’s response to his cancer news.
“Wonderful to see you looking so well,” Mr Sunak said.
“It’s all done by mirrors,” the King replied with a chuckle.
“We’re all behind you,” continued the Prime Minister. “The country is behind you.”
A visibly emotional King Charles then responded: “I’ve had so many wonderful messages and cards. It’s reduced me to tears most of time.”
As for Charles’s recovery, the general message put forth by the royals is that he is doing well and remaining positive. With the likes of Queen Camilla and Prince William offering support, the King can take the time he needs to recover before returning to his duties.
Even so, it’s a worrying time for the royals, especially since Charles’s diagnosis coincided with Kate Middleton’s abdominal surgery. That procedure will keep the Princess of Wales out of public action until at least after Easter.
Here’s to wishing King Charles and Kate Middleton well moving forward.
