King Charles III will undergo “corrective procedure” for enlarged prostate, Buckingham Palace says

Breaking news from Buckingham Palace: King Charles III will reportedly undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate.
The news follows a separate announcement this morning that Kate, the Princess of Wales, would be hospitalized following abdominal surgery.
“Corrective procedure” for King
According to the Associated Press, Charles, 75, will require “a short period of recuperation,” the palace said.
They also stated that his condition is benign, and that the treatment was “in common with thousands of men each year.”

An enlarged prostate, or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), is indeed a common affliction in older men. According to Yale Medicine, around 80% of men over the age of 70 have enlarged prostates.
While some men don’t experience any symptoms from BPH, others may experience problems with urination. There is a range of treatment options available for the condition, ranging from lifestyle changes to minimally invasive surgeries.
According to the Daily Mail, King Charles had meetings and events scheduled at Dumfries House tomorrow, which have now been postponed on doctors’ advice. Sources told the outlet that the monarch was “keen” to share his medical diagnosis to encourage other men to get checked.

Kate hospitalized
The announcement follows news that Kate, The Princess of Wales, has been hospitalized after undergoing abdominal surgery.
Kensington Palace announced that Kate, 42, was admitted to the London Clinic on Tuesday. Her condition is noncancerous, and she will return to public duties after Easter, per AP.

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,’’ the palace said in a statement. “She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”
An enlarged prostate is a condition many older men have to deal with, even kings. We’re wishing Charles a successful treatment and speedy recovery, and continue to send our good thoughts to the Princess of Wales.
