Miranda Lambert mourns death of beloved dog Thelma: “It hurts so bad to say goodbye”
No matter who you are, a pet dog can be the most important thing in the world. Even the most famous celebrities rely on the unconditional love of their beloved pets.
Now, country singer Miranda Lambert is mourning the loss of her beloved dog Thelma has passed away, sharing an emotional tribute post to her pet.
Rest in peace, Thelma
The “House That Built Me” singer, 39, announced on Instagram yesterday that her beloved Great Pyrenees dog Thelma had died. “I loved her with all my heart,” Lambert wrote.
Though it’s never easy to lose a pet, Lambert wrote that she is just grateful for the eight great years they had together.
“It hurts so bad to say goodbye to these sweet companions but their love is always worth it. How lucky are we do get to have friends like Thelma. I am so proud to have been part of her story.”
The country star adopted Thelma, along with another Great Pyrenees named Louise, from a shelter back in 2016: “They rode on my bus all the way from Dallas to Nashville and on that 10 hour drive I fell in love with them,” Lambert recalled.
The two dogs enjoyed life on her farm in Nashville, looking after all the farm animals. Lambert wrote that over her eight years on the farm Thelma reveled in her space and freedom.
“She lived the last 8 years with no fences, just freedom to do what she did best. Love and protect,” she wrote.
Louise is still alive, but Lambert says she has “retired from her farm duties” and has been “getting all the more love” from her family.
At the end of her post, Lambert thanked her farm managers Julia and Tommy for taking care of her dogs over the years and “loving them like they are your own.” She also encouraged everyone to “love a shelter pet.”
Miranda Lambert, animal advocate
Over her career, Miranda Lambert has used her fame to help and advocate for animals. She founded the MuttNation Foundation in 2009, an organization focused on rescue animals and shelters. MuttNation has held adoption drives at country concerts, provided emergency disaster relief and has raised funds for shelters across the US.
Last year, MuttNation partnered with Greater Good Charities to provide 2 million pet meals for families going through economic challenges. Lambert also opened the Redemption Ranch shelter in Tishomingo, Oklahoma in 2014.
It was recently announced that Lambert would serve as a celebrity judge in this year’s World’s Cutest Rescue Dog Contest, sponsored by People Magazine and Pedigree.
