Parents slammed after leaving “entitled” note on park bench for toddler’s birthday party

Any parent out there will know how nervous one can get when their young child’s birthday party is approaching. Will everything go according to plan? Will there be unseen drama that threatens to spoil the big day? Most importantly, will your little one feel as special as they deserve to?

The truth is there’s very little we’re not prepared to do to ensure that our son or daughter’s big day goes off without a hitch, but it appears that there are limits regarding what the rest of the public are ready to accept.

That was the case two years back, at least, when one Redditor posted a thread that gained plenty of attention after one set of parents allegedly took things too far in planning a birthday party for their 4-year-old.

As per the post on Reddit, the parents had attempted to “reserve” tables in their local park for their child’s birthday, decorating them with table cloths and attaching a “passive aggressive” note that has since been slammed online.

“Reserved for a birthday party,” the note read.

Please respect the space we’ve set aside and do not use our tables. This is for a four-year-old’s party, don’t be the one to mess it up, thankyou.”

One person said to have been at the park that day described their frustrations, labeling the note “entitled”.

They wrote: “Busy public park on a hot Saturday/Labor Day weekend. Seems super entitled. Park has been open for four hours and no sign of them. All the other tables are full.”

Eventually the family turned up, though the bystander claimed they were “very rowdy” and were playing music on a loud speaker.

“The rangers had to come and have a very long chat with them, after that they settled down,” the Reddit post went on.

Reddit users by and large appeared to share the author of the post’s sentiment.

“It’s just like people reserving pool chairs at 7am and not showing up to the pool until 3!” one person wrote.

“As a parent who has gotten up at 5am and sat at one of these to keep it reserved, please just use the tables! How rude of them!” said another.

“Unless stated by officials and with the officials sign and paper work, all public benches are first come first served basis. Most reservations at parks are usually gazebo style buildings with lots of tables in them. Other then that you have the right to throw that sign away,” said a third.
