Prince William makes huge announcement, one month after Kate Middleton’s cancer revelation
Prince William has announced that he is returning to royal duties following a three-and-a-half week hiatus to spend time with his wife and children.
According to reports, the engagement will be the Prince of Wales’s first since Kate Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis in March. Not long after the bombshell news was made public, the Wales’s retreated from the spotlight to enjoy an extended Easter break with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
It has been widely reported that Prince William wishes to prioritize caring for Kate, though any lengthy break from his royal duties may pose a problem, particularly since King Charles is fighting his own cancer battle.
As per the BBC, William will visit a food redistribution charity in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey today, before heading to a youth center in west London that benefits from the charity’s work.
The appearances will mark William’s first in an official capacity since the announcement of Kate’s cancer battle. The couple became the subject of cruel speculation and wild conjecture after Kate’s mysterious abdominal procedure in January, with rumors even insisting that their marriage was on the rocks.
In March, though, the Princess of Wales bravely issued a video message wherein she revealed to the world that an undisclosed cancer had been found following the aforesaid abdominal surgery.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said, adding “tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”
Kate said that having her husband by her side had been a “great source of comfort”.
Since then the Wales’s have enjoyed some well-deserved family time, but the royal show, as they say, must go on.
It’s been reported in various quarters that Kate Middleton will be making a return to royal engagements when she is adequately recovered, though no timeline has been offered at the time of writing. Kensington Palace claimed the Princess of Wales would be back working after Easter, though that was long before her cancer announcement.
As stands, Kate is receiving preventative chemotherapy treatment, while King Charles is also undergoing treatment on his own cancer. The King has also temporarily stepped back from his public duties, perhaps placing greater onus on Prince William to step in and fill the void.
Here’s to wishing both Kate Middleton and King Charles all the very best with their respective recoveries.
