Russell Crowe, 59, makes worrying claim about his future – “You will never hear from me again”

It’s never a good day when you realize your favorite singer will never again release music, or your favorite actor won’t ever appear in any new TV shows or films moving forward.

Of course, more often than not, it’s only death that puts a definitive end to the careers of our most revered entertainers. Many performers continue to produce work well into old age, and we see their styles evolve and change to reflect their advanced years.

Yet one Hollywood heavyweight we might never get the chance to watch grow old on screen is Russell Crowe, with the Gladiator star insisting he is pondering whether or not to call it a day ahead of his 60th birthday.

Crowe’s been a giant of the film industry for the better part of three decades now, but his words spoken recently at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival have given his staunchest supporters cause for alarm.

The veteran actor, set to turn 60 next year, openly pondered the prospect of an early retirement from the film industry, claiming that he has considered that idea that fading into obscurity might just provide him with a better life.

According to Variety, Crowe said of getting older: “You are standing in front of the mirror, and go: Who the f— is that?’ I am in that period now.

“I will take Ridley Scott as my role model: he is still discovering new things in his work. Or I will just stop and you will never hear from me again. I haven’t decided what it’s going to be. These are two very valid choices.”

Ridley Scott, who Crowe famously worked with on the legendary Gladiator back in 2000, is 85 years old. If his IMDb page is to be believed, he has as many as 20 upcoming projects.

Crowe, meanwhile, is listed as having eight movies in the works, as per Fox News. If that’s true then it might be sometime before fans are mourning his departure from the entertainment industry.

Among his current projects are a series of documentaries that he plans to release in the future. The 59-year-old said:

“In order to release them, I have to make them legally comfortable. And to me, that destroys the point. So I just have to wait longer, wait for some people to die, and then I can put them out.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly going to miss Russell Crowe when he eventually decides to retire from acting.
