Tragic new detail comes to light after Madonna hospitalization – star had to be revived
Madonna’s recovery is going slower than expected following her sudden hospitalization last week. In fact, new reports have revealed that her recent health scare was more grave than first thought.
The 64-year-old has been in and out of the headlines in recent months for her antics online and seemingly forever-changing appearance.
Madonna had been set to embark on her highly anticipated Celebration Tour in Vancouver on July 15 – which would have seen her perform her best hits from 1983 to now in 53 shows across North America and Europe – but was forced to postpone it after she was rushed to hospital with a bacterial infection.
The Vogue singer’s tour manager Gary Oseary took to Instagram last Wednesday (June 28) to announce the decision to pause the tour, writing: “On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in ICU.”
He continued: “Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and rescheduled shows.”
Initial reports revealed Madonna had been found unresponsive on Saturday, June 24, and was subsequently to a New York City hospital where she was intubated.
Not long after, a relative of the Grammy winning artist told Entertainment Tonight that her family had been “preparing for the worst” after the news first broke. “For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst,” they said.
“That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday,” they added. “Everyone believed that we may lose her, and that has been the reality of the situation.”
The relative further expressed their concern over the chart-topping singer, saying that Madonna truly “believes that she is invincible” and that she “has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months.”
Now, Radar Online has exclusively detailed that Madonna’s stint in hospital was more severe than initially thought, as medics who treated the unresponsive star at her apartment were forced to administer a NARCAN injection.
The injection is typically used in instances of a known or suspected opioid overdose, where symptoms can include unusual sleepiness or difficulty waking up, breaking problems, and a slow heartbeat. Administering a NARCAN injection does not always mean a patient has suffered an opioid overdose, however, and it is often used to reverse the effects of septic shock, per Medline Plus.
While Madonna is reportedly out of ICU, she’s apparently still seriously ill and remains bedridden.
It has not yet been confirmed what sort of bacterial infection the singer had contracted, but the New York Post did report she was allegedly suffering from a monthlong fever leading up to being found unresponsive.
